I know this probably should have went in off topic. But I want to make sure everybody reads this, so I put it at the top. This is kinda long, but I want everyone to be aware. Dennis' laptop had gotten a trojan on it. We think we know what website it came from. One of those online movie sites. Anyway, he got the official warning about it on his laptop. Said we had gotten this trojan that needed to be removed. It wouldn't let him into anything, just kept popping up the warning. Said it would cost $49 to remove it. We figured the warning was from windows or aol or something. Now we have a separte bank account that is only for online purchases. We just keep a small amount in it. We figure if something happened, it wouldn't hurt to use this small account. Will, this time, the one and only time, we used our main bank account to purchase the program. For some reason, it wouldn't take the debit card, so we gave up. We downloaded Avast, and it cleared it up. Well, a couple days later, I was on a different forum where they were talking about this happening to them , that it is a scam. So I paniced and told Dennis to check our account. Everything was ok, so I didn't worry as much. Today, we got home from work and had a message from our bank. They said someone had tried to use Western Union in New York on our bank account. Ready for this?
?? For $1,070 dollars. They red flagged it. Said it wasn't like our usual spending habits, so they denied it. Thank Goodness. Now, I am telling you, I am just amazed at our bank. Actually it is a credit union. They have a huge business, and yet they caught this and stopped it for us!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is just so awesome. We went down to the bank. They gave us new cards and blocked the old ones. There were also 2 small charges on there for less than $10.00. We figure the small charges were just checking out if they could access the account.
So everyone please, please be careful if this happens . It looked very believable. And it's crazy, cause normally we don't use that card online. We learned a very serious lesson. I'm letting everyone know about this as it's still out there.
