Start out with a Small friend because someone my size doesn't do 12' boats. After that I'd go with some decent rod holders, and if you can afford it a small fish finder. It's always handy to have some marker bouys if you are going to do much drifting or moving. Dave

A good set of peddles don't hurt either. (in case you havent seen the pictures, we fish from a paddle boat) But serouisly, congrats on your boat. We are getting old enough, it's time we started looking for a "serious" boat. We have had a lot of fun and stories to tell in that little paddle boat. Gets us into spots the regular boats can't get into. I know you will enjoy your boat.

Get a nice back light for night fishing! I had a 12 foot boat and put two blocks of styrofoam under the seat so the boat would never sing if it over turned! get a tie down 15 footer at wal mart for about $7! Get a nice bright crank latern for night fishing and a single mantle propane latern also for night. Make a styrofoam live well with a 12 volt system or a battery airator. The styro foam is great becase a frozen ice bottle will keep the bait alive in the foam on hot day! A couple small pattles!

Everyone always forgets the basics. Here, you are required to have a certain number of things. If you have a motor, you need a small fire extinguisher. If not, then have at least a signaling device which a whistle will work. Fasten that in the boat within easy reach. Have enuff life preservers for everyone in the boat and a floating cushion for a throwing device incase someone falls overboard. And to sit on while yer fishing cuz them seats get hard on the rearend after awhile. If you do have a motor, then yer also required to have at least one paddle.
Anything 12 volts will require a battery. Up to you whether you wanna lug one around. You will prolly want some sorta lights tho. Use yer imagination. LEDs use less power and are more compact.
Pole holders are almost a must in my opinion. Can be anything from store bought to homemade from PVC.
An anchor of some type. Window weights work good. A couple lengths of rope. One for yer anchor and one to tie with.
A dip net.
And a sharp knife within easy reach. Comes in handy for cutting bait or lines or if you get snagged on a trot line or jug and havta free yerself fast.
I also like to have a small water tight ammo box to keep the boat registration and my camera and other small items that I wanna keep dry. Tie that to the boat as well. Not sayin you will ever tip over, but its better to be prepared.
You will soon find that yer 12 foot boat will become crowded soon as you keep adding more stuff. I'd try to keep it as uncluttered as possible. Makes for a funner and safer fishing trip.

A needed thing for fishing is a carpeted floor to help cut down on the noise...Here in Ohio there are some items which is required by law that you must have on board at all times and they change from year to year...You can go to your local license office to get a free copy of the regulations....A tip is that SOME officers are lax on the regs but most are not...ESP in any of the State Parks they do not cut much slack on violations...
