I hear people say they caught some drum. Are they the same thing as what I call carp? If not, what is the difference?

Freshwater Drum are not related to carp, they are actually a cousin of the perch with fairly white meat. They feed on shad and can usually be found in any habitat that hold walleye. The have ugly mouths and a large hump on their head so they usually arent treated with much respect, but they are really not a bad fish. They fight like a wet bag of taters after the first few seconds, and you always know you caught one because they windmill on top as they come in. I especially like to smoke them since they are oily and smoke very well. Dave

Drum also have rocks in their heads. (Not unlike most of us.) ;D
For real. Located rite between their eyes or close there of. The bigger the fish, the bigger the rocks. Legend has it they use em for mating sounds er sumsuch. But I know for a fact the rocks are there. Ya havta kinda mutilate em to get em. A drum bouta foot long will have rocks bout the size of yer thumbnail. or so. Their white in color. and kinda flat and round.

We have mostly carp here. Some people do eat them but I never have. Heard they are really boney. I've heard pressure cooking them is a good way around the bones.
