Ok, doc says Dennis' cholestrol (however you spell it) is very high. Started going to doc because his blood pressure is high. On medication for all of that. We are gonna try to get more exercise. He gave us a list of what is good and bad for Dennis to eat. Dennis says he'd rather try to control it with pills, exercise and weight loss. Which can happen. But in the meantime, any suggestion. Like I say, I know what he can and can't eat by what the doc says. But the list is ugly. Now why is it Shrimp is bad, but lobster is ok??? Any suggestions would be great.

They told me I had high cholestrol, too. Told me to take Lovastatin (whatever that is?) Gave me a prescript for three months of it. And to take lotsa Fish oil. I told em I eat catfish. They said that wasnt the same thing. So I got a big bottle of Omega-3 Fish Oil. Sposta take two once or twice a day with meals. I sumtimes remember to take one or the other, but seldom both. Bout the only thing I do remember to take everyday is my High Blood pressure pill. I figger dyin is prolly the last thing I ever gonna do, So make the most of it.

I've heard some about the fish oil. Might give it a try. Breakfast really stinks. Can't eat much of anything except oatmeal. I was wondering if the Cheerios thing really works. They say on the commercial it lowers cholosterol. And we all know what the advertise on tv is true ( ;)wink wink nod nod

Anything high Fiber will lower cholesterol, so the Cherios thing woks well enough. Hot peppers help a lot especially Jalepeno's (mild to medium in the heat range) and Cayenne (Medium to hot) I use them in everything but homemade ice cream. I also take a couple of really good vitamins, one of which is specifically designed to lower cholesterol. If you are interested in learning more about the Vitamins, let me know via PM.

I have to take 60 mg of Simvastatin each day for mine..Normally I have very low blood pressure since the attack several years ago....Some times I forget to take mine at night along with the other meds....Docs tell me not to eat this and that.. Tried it their way but it was very lacking...Went back to my way. Very rare red meat but not lean as they want..very little shrimp. I like tunna canned in oil not the water.. Have cut down on meal size though....

We were really surprised that shrimp is on the bad list. We love shrimp fried, boiled, or shrimp salad. Always thought it was a good thing. Lobster is supposed to be good. But we don't eat lobster much. Got some wheat bread, and he was sure frowning at it. We haven't been following the diet plan like we should. I need to get stricter. We have been playing computor games at night. I have been fixing a snack bowl with cheerios and almonds. I know you are supposed to eat a handful of almonds everyday for all kinds of reasons. So I think that is a good snack.

I really like the fruit nuts but can not chew them right now....We also like shrimp very much...
Place cooked and peeled shrimp on foil. Next add dried onion flakes, large tb spoon of fine chopped garlic, 2 or 3 large tb spoon of butter. a pinch of salt and pepper. SEAL the foil and place on the grill or in the oven untill it is heated thouroughly.. Very good. Doesn't last long around here...
