South of the border cornbread
1 lb ground beef 1/2 lb sausage 1 cup self-rising cornbread 1/2 cup self-rising flour 2 cups cream corn 1 cup buttermilk 2 cups grated cheddar cheese 1 large onion, chopped 3 Tbsp. sugar 2 eggs, well beaten 6-8 jalapenos chopped 1/2 cup bacon grease or reserved meat grease
Fry beef and sausage together until brown. Drain. Reserve grease. While meat is browning, mix cornmeal, flour, sugar, corn, eggs, bacon grease (or meat grease), and buttermilk. Pour 1/2 of batter in lightly greased 13 x 9 x 2 pan which has been sprinkled with cornmeal. Sprinkle cheese over batter, then the crumbled meat. Mix together onion, and peppers and sprinkle over the meat. Pour remaining batter over top. Bake at 350 degrees for one hour.

I used to make this to take to work once in awhile. The other day, a guy I haven't seen in awhile, asked if I still had the recipe for it so he could have it again. It is a very popular dish
