do u hunt, or just enjoy shooting "cans"? The .308 is obviously a good deer rifle, but with the bipod, I was expecting that rifle to be chanbered in a Varmint caliber.

At first it was a M-14 before I changed to the 700 ADL in 308. Back then we had to buy our own non issue. Had a Weaver 3x9 at first then changed to a fixed 4 because of the jungle and elephant grass.. LOL had a buddy that mounted a scope on a BAR .50 ...Would drive the brass nuts because we would slip out on our own from time to time..We had to make our own gillys and they would really go nuts because it wasn't issued. Learned that from some South Korean Marines we were with for awhile...

Always thought the BAR was 308,not 50 cal.We made our own ghillies also, hated that sweat box of burlap.

If the memory serves me right , Our weapons platoons had two chambered for 50 cal used as spotting fired only tracers from a fixed position...Others were 30 cal assignned to rifle platoon with a M-60 which fired 7.62 Nato . With these every 5th round was tracers. My friend, Carlos, was a one of a kind person...Standard issue at that time was M-14 for Marines because the Army didn't like them. We recieved their cast offs...Was the same with 782 gear and most every thing else...Army got to try the new stuff and the Navy gave us the old. When MREs came out we were still eating crats for another 3 or 4 years... Once in awhile a Ranger camp would resupply us with MREs but not often. I was released from active duty in January '67 and crats were still being issued to Marines. Our brass was still being issued Thompsons for field use then and the grunts were carrying their extra rounds for them....We still had a few 06s around back then that were used.
