I made three raised beds with 2by 8's about 6 by 8. I put some leaves in the bottom and a little urea or gypsome for heat and covered it with 6 inches of fine dirt. Blood meal is also excellent! I planted lettuce spinch, peas, kolirab and some radish! I covered the bed with plastic which was about 6 inches above the ground level. Everything even the peas were up in 10 days. I took the covers off during a rain and now they are back . I also put 3 beds on the flat ground and covered it with plastic a little over a week ago and the lettuce is up. I also threw some carrots and cabbage in the mix!I never plant just one crop in a bed. I always mix carrots radish with the lettuce then when the lettuce is done the carrots are getting nice for salads. Don't put too many radish or they will take over. Lettuce also makes the radish milder! I let a few of the radish go to flower and I have pink and white radish flowers all over the garden with plenty of bees. The radish helps shade the other crops since the radish gets 2 to 3 feet high. You can also eat the young radish pods in a salad!. next time you go to a chineese resturant got to the salad section and you will see a silver dollar size white radish cut the thickness of a half dollar. The are covered with a sweet clear sauce and are delicious. These are a different radish that takes 60 days to grow and usually get three times as big as a regular radish and are not hot at all!!
