We love to brush fish. We've caught some hugh ones in the brush or grasses. Why is it that we seem to catch blues mainly in open water? Channels are usually what we catch in the brush with an occasional blue. Of course we catch both in both spots. But mainly blues in open water, and channels in the brush and shallows

Blue cats are more of a deep water cat whereas channels are more of a fringe cat. Also the blue prefers cooler temps than channels..You should also have shovelhead/flatties in your area..Cats can be caught most anytime however the larger ones will be caught more at night. Do you and Lymi fish much at night? The night time fishing is a different type of fishing all together.

So what is a shovelhead? The lake we normally fish has: Blues, channels, Saugeye, bass, tons of carp, I guess bullheads. Very few perch, lots of minnows. Oh, we also have snakes and turtles!!!!!!! Never caught a yellow cat there. What is the difference between a yellow and a channel?

Yeah, we have fished at night occasionally. One time , we fished a private tank at night. We were catching them as fast as we were throwing out!!! We were told if it rains, to leave or we'd be stuck. Well, here came a downpour. We were fishing off of a dock that had a homemade basket. When the rain hit, we were trying to hurry up. It was dark. We pulled the basket up. Probably had about 40 fish in it. The bottome dropped out. Cats were flopping all around on the dock and floppin into the water. We are trying to grab up as many fish as we can without being finned. It's dark and pouring down rain. Oh, what fun we do have. It is funny now. Probably saved about half of them. Got out of there safely after slipping and sliding a lot.

Never caught a yellow cat there. What is the difference between a yellow and a channel? Yellow cat is another name for the shovelhead. The channel cat is found in most waters every where. The coloring is dark blue on top and lightens down the sides . The main feature is that it has black spots on the sides towards the tail...

Dog, I thought that you were giving him away?. What the yankees call a pond is called a tank down her way...Because of lack of rain the scrub brush will grow right along the edge of the water. When it does rain the water level rises up and covers the brush. It is like fishing in submerged trees .
