Well, I spent extra money and bought those spiral energy saving bulbs a few months ago. Supposed to last 5 years. Yeah, right. We have already had 2 burn out. We very seldom have to replace the regular old fashion bulbs. And they don't put out much light. The outside ones have to warm out. I bought a energy saving light bulb. When I go to work in the morning it is still dark. I'd turn it on, and it would barely put out light. After it'd be on for a while, it'd get really bright. Replaced that baby.

we use the good ones from Lowes or Home depot, haven't had any burn out in a couple of years. The warm up feature does take a bit of getting used to though, when we first started using them, we really had trouble, but now they don't bother us at all. I'm such a tightwad, I had to give them a try and so far I've seen lower electric bills and less bulbs being replaced.

one of my favorite bulbs is the 200 watt rating spiral bulb that I think uses 50 watts of power. Ge has a round fluorescent or actually like a rounded W that puts out 150 watts but uses 39 watts. Dave is right buy the good companies they last longer and are not dangerious like some of the china made ones. The only problem s some of the name brands are also made in china! I like alot of light in the kitchen so I put a regular 75 watt bulb and a 100 fluorescent together so I don't have for it to get brighter! Usuall big lots or Olies have good buys on name brands!

I have been using those bulbs for at least the last 10 years, now. I get mine at Lowe's and I love them!! A big multi-pack runs around 10 or 12 dollars. When I moved into my downtown store location, I immediately changed all the regular bulbs to the spiral fluorescent ones. When I moved out 2 1/2 years later, I changed them back out and took them with me. They are still going! The one in my laundry room usually only lasts about 2 years, but I never turn it off. The rest usually last at about 3 - 4 years. And besides cutting down on the amount of electricity they use (cut about $20 a month off of my bill!), they also cut down, drastically, on the amount of heat they put off (or lack of), reducing your cooling bill (more than you would think). Course, then there are people like me that don't use air conditioning and they just help by keeping it cooler in here, period. Yes, the first ones I got were cheap and didn't last long, but those economy packs from Sam's Wholesale (I think they are GE brand) last a good long time!
