So if ya get finned by a cat, that is the worse sting as you all know. I've heard to rub it on the belly of the cat to make the sting go away. Haven't ever tried it. But man, that can hurt

Haven't heard doing that. A product called Stingease stops it. The slime on a cat's skin will stop it also...Yes it does burn, also can cause a bad infection ... Baby Wipes will also work on it...

Yeah, I've had some mild ones. But I do have one or two scars from them. One was from cleaning one that got away from me. One I threw back in the lake, and it's fin got me. I do try to be careful

The little bitty ones are the ones I use to have a problem with throwing them back in, now I use a rag to hold the little devils and haven't gotten stung since.

Because a circle hook hooks so well they should sell barbless ones! Even a trebble barbless hook may be a good future hook! They did have a barb that could be compressed! I hold my catfish with my hand under the two side fins when I pick them up. A cheap cloth glove or plain rag will give you a good grip! there are catfish that actually have poison in the fin but are not in this area as I know! The pain is from the slime that gets in the cut I think!
