we saw a minature pontoon the other day. I didn't know they made little ones. About 2-3 man size. It was really neat. We looked it up on line. It is made by a company called pond king.

Why can't you make a poontoon with large plastic pipe!

You should be able to make one out of 12" diameter pvc pipe and 4" pvc that runs across to anckor the two larger ones, put a second layer of 4" to anchor your plywood too. Put some valve stems in the big ones so you can fill them with as much air as you need. I think the hard part would be the front so that it wouldn't be just a big flat end breaking water when you are running. I can see some money going into this idea but still a lot cheaper than buying a high price pontoon. Sounds like it would be a fun adventure. You could make them any size you would like. I think a 6ft wide and 8 ft long would be a great size for a single person, then at least a 12ft X 6ft for two. I need some extra money to try this with.

I was thinking about this Papa after you post here! I bet that we could set up a 6 inch pipe along side each 12 in one that would shoot water out like a hose and propel the boat. It would work like a regular basement sump pump pushing the water out one end and pulling it in the other giving a nice motion and very compact.

Whats gonna push the water out?
Makes me think of one of the portable fire pumps we got on the FD. Sits in the water and sucks it up and pushes it out a hose. I often teased bout water skiing behind it. But one of em would be kinda cost prohibitive just to play with.
I dunno why ya couldn't put a elbow on the front to break the water better instead of just a flat plug. Then cap the top of the elbow.

Instead of a 90 degree use a 45 degree one on the end

what happens when you hit something in the water the pipe cracks and you sink.

The type of plastic pipe we are going to use are like a sewer pipe and are very strong. You could also fill them up with styro foam beads and a swall crack would not effect them!Thgis pipe is even stronger than aluminum! Actually any strongf tube or cylinder that is filled with styrofaom would work great!Styrofoam is the key to a better boat or pontoon but we need some clever ideas as to how to cover it with a protective coating to make it work great! Captured Air is more boyant but styrofoam will not sink period! There is a bobber made in Ohio mae of a type of styrofoam but is very tough and could hold without any protection with maybe just a strong paint surface!

Theres a good use for all them packing peanuts!
Really I dont spect a flotation device such as this to be going fast enuff to do much more than just "bump" an object. Unlike one of them high powered bass boats impaling itself on a tree stump. Theres you an new idea for a bobber. A bobber you can fish out of. ~grin

why not go to craigs list and buy a pond jumper for about a $150.00 and not have to build anything

We asked his price and it is $4,000. Boat , trailor, 4 stroke motor. We were seriously thinking about buying it. But today a friend told us that she has one of those pelican 2 man fishing boats that has only been in the water about 5 times. Belonged to her and her deceased husband. Just sitting in the garage. She said she is gonna bring it to us and give it to us this week. I told her I couldn't accept that. But she said it would make her feel so good to know that someone is using it that will enjoy it. Kinda like keeping her husbands memory going. Said there is no way she can take anything for it. Even has the trolling motor. I do understand how she feels, I'd probably be the same way. It just will feel really weird to get it. We do a lot for others, but when someone does something for us, it just feels strange. But we will enjoy it.

I'm with you dsmith, I try to help all that I can, but it freaks me out when someone wants to give me somthing also. Sometimes you just have to swallow hard and except it though. Giving is a lot more fun than recieving. Wife gets mad at me for giving things away, but that's the way I am and always will be, she has got to where she just shakes her head now.
