As I said elsewhere, we went to see old friends today. They live in the country. I was walking back to the car to get something. Was talking to them as I was walking and looking back at them. I turned around JUST in time to see a baby rattler next to the car RIGHT in front of me. Two more steps, and I'd stepped on him, or he'd bitten me. Scared me really bad. I'm used to snakes at the lake and have found rattlers at our house. I just was not thinking. Someone was looking over me.

Sure glad they were!! That certainly was a close call. I nearly stepped on one a few days ago but I don't know what kind it was. I was closing my gate and went to step backwards. I just happened to look down as I took my next step and right where I was fixing to put my foot was a large snake! It was curved where I couldn't quite see it's head, but it was about as big around as a golf ball and it was dark brown and burnt orange striped -lengthwise stripes (kinda pretty for a snake) ..... I didn't look long, though, it slithered off one way into the brush and I fast hobbled the other way! Certainly glad that rattler didn't get you. I have heard that the baby ones may even be more poisonous than the adults.

Has anyone here ever been bit by one? It might be an interested story to share. I hope nobody here has been, but just interested.

I think that I mentioned in a post before that I had been struck two different times. Once as a youngster and once years later.

My grandfather went into his garage and one was wrapped around his lightbulb. He did not see it, but felt something strike his hand. His hands were so calloused that it just bounced off. He was really lucky.

I have seen them up on the rafters at the ranch numerous times. Makes one wonder how they can climb up a wall like they do..Even found the shed skin in the rain gutter while cleaning it out...

Girl, now you be careful out there. In this kind of heat, they are looking for water and cool spots.
