Like many others, we have lost some really big cats. The line breaks, he gets off, you know all the reasons(excuses) When we do loose one, we will try to catch it again. But we have never had one come back for more. Once he bites, will he come back and bite again?

I have caught a few that had hooks in their mouths.Have heard of some even having lures in their mouths...Most big fish do not "mouth" their food like the smaller fish do. They gulp and run with it..That is one reason I leave my reels on free spool and the clicker on. This is more true when I tightline fish..With a bobber it does not make much difference.

TCBA's brother hooked into a nice fish river fishing in our area......he broke it off. A little bit later, he hooked into another nice fish. Finally landed it, and it had his hook in it's mouth. Will they hit again? They sure will. The odds you will hook it within the same trip are probably not that great, but very possible!

Thanks. Many times we have lost a big one and tried to catch him again. Never have.

We have had a few big ones just play with us like that. The little bull heads will tug at it. But the big ones play a little different.

I know what you guys are talking about. I have waited for pretty long stretches while fish would "gum" my baits. It's gotten to the point in a lot of areas where we can tell a turtle bite, a bowfin bite, a channel cat bite or a flathead bite. It makes it nice, but not so nice when you just know it's not a big cat on the other end......yet you don't wanna set or reel in just in case a biggun is nearby ;D

It is frustrating at times...Most of the big ones I have caught ran from the start.

Dog, You have been lucky twice over. I lost several and never recovered them.Had one two years ago that I followed in the water and got it back. LOL, Mick started laughting so hard she will still bring it up once in awhile. That rod had been set out for a couple of hours and I was reaching for it when it decided to take off. It ended up with about a 3# smallmouth on the other end off of a peice off cutbait...
