When we clean cats, we filet them. I run a slit up the middle and pull the insides out. Is the in humane? I read somewhere to put them on ice or cut the gills and let them bleed before you kill them to be more humane. Wouldn't a slow death be worse. I never really thought about it, I just cleaned them.

Never thought much about it. I have a large nail in a tree out back. Place the head on it and take the plyers to remove the skin, then filet it.

I don't gut my fish I slide the knife under the meat and go from the gill almost to the end of the tail than flip it and run the blade under the skin and you have a fillet without a lot of mess

I pretty well do the same as mastercatter, except I have my nail in a board, then save the guts and use them for bait the next time out. Channels anyway seem to really like the gut pockets on dead bait and they like guts too, it's food and they ain't picky.

I use an electric knife to fillet them nothing fancy my wife gets them at the thrift store for 2 or 3 dollars people get rid of them when they get dull cause they don't know how to sharpen them I just use a diamond stick and sharpen them just like an other knife I don't even gut them first if it is a good sized catfish I will cut the belly meat off first then I will fillet it then just fillet the rest I can clean a 10lb cat in about a minute ;D

I do it the simple way......just fillet a catfish just like I would any other fish. I found it was just quicker and easier than skinning them and/or gutting them
