We got a new food dehydrator for Christmas. That way I can make 2 batches at once. My son, and Dennis share, and everyone is really on me that I haven't made any in awhile. Anyway's, I usually dry jerky for 8 to 10 hours. This new one says 1 1/2 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have I not been drying long enough. It always looks, feels , and tastes right to me. 1 1/2 days seems extreme to me. It can dry at the same temperature as my old one. So how long do you dry?

We most always did ours for around 6 to 8 hours. Depending on what kind it was.

When I make it, the drying times vary depending on the cut of meat and how thick I cut it. Most times I wind up drying it more than a day, but I've always done mine in the oven. My son got a dehydrator this year, so will be trying that instead. The oven works good, but it's kinda messy and takes up the oven for too long.

I got to looking at it closer. It is a Ronco. But I read reviews. Said it doesn't have a fan is why it takes so long. Andd the reviews said that the trays crack real easy. So we called my brother in law who gave it to us. Said they ordered it through Amazon but saved the papers so we can send it back. A lot of trouble to send it back, but we just don't think we will be happy with this one.

I was gonna say before I read the whole thread, that maybe it was just the directions that were off. I remember my George Foreman grill's directions said to cook hamburgers and steaks for bout 11 minutes. You'd have jerky if ya cooked em that long.

Mine is a NESCO American Harvest. It is very durable and can buy more trays for it ..Of all the different jerky mixes that I have tried , I like the Nesco brand best of all...Have dried apples apeaches and bannas in mine...

That might be the brand my son has, I know it has "Harvest" in the name, and he ordered extra trays for it.

It is the BEST one which I have ever used and there has been several over the years..I have 4 trays with mine and been wanting to get several more. Now with it just being me here may not have to get more...Course the kids are always wanting me to make some for them...Can tell em to make their own and buy their own dehydrator without someone getting upset..
