Fire scares the bejeesus outta me. It spreads so fast and can change direction so quick too. Glad you're all safe and sound.

Glad that you guys are alright and had no damage to the house..Over the years I have been burned out twice and lost things which could never be replaced. Valuable papers and keepsakes...That is something that no one should ever have to go through...The Pics are awsome though!! Thanks for sharing them.

I've been lucky through the years, never been in a fire, but my mom and dad's house burnt while I was in the service. Your right about losing a lot of stuff that can't be replaced no matter how hard you try. Glad you all made it through and didn't lose anything.

Thanks all. We have been lucky enough to never had a bad fire. We have had 2 minor fires before, but caught it in time. A few years ago, our neighbors house burned down. It was about 2 in the morning, and they came knocking at our door to call 911. So we saw it pretty much from the beginning. It was so horrible. She was crying. I never had heard the sounds of a house burning. There was glass breaking, little explosions, things crashing, etc. In the wee hours of the morning in the dark, it was really terrible. It took the fire dept about 30 minutes to get there, all we could do was watch it burn down because the fire was so intense. But the couple, their children, and the dogs were ok, so that is what mattered. My daddy was a fireman for 33 years before retireing. He had many a story to tell.

My mom and I swap copies of important pictures so if something happens at one of our houses, the other will have the pictures that are important to us and my son who lives in the valley has copies of them too. I know what I'd be taking if there was a fire, but I wouldn't stick around long to see if it's gonna head my way. My brother was a state firefighter for 25 years and he told me "if it's headed your way, leave, you can't fight it, leave that to the firefighters. Take what you can and just leave". Got a little fire safe for our important papers like deed, birth certificates and the like, one that I can carry. Other than that, as long as the occupants and pets make it out, that's what's important to me. When I moved up here, I knew I'd live with a bigger possibility of fire, decided I'd do what I can to keep stuff safe, but not going to worry obsessively about it and drive myself nuts. Nothing is worse than a fire, watching your life destroyed in front of you, but possessions are just possessions, my family is what is important.

Pictures are irreplaceable. Papers, you can usually get replaced. I was a hard core volunteer firefighter for 22 years when my trailer burned. It just aint the same anymore. I still on the local VFD, but mostly just as support. Be 31 years this year. 9 years next month since the trailer burned. I been in burning houses with the flames lapping overhead and in wild fires when the wind changes direction. Sumpthin just snapped when I became the victim. Well, that and I got too fat for my gear. But that was when it started. ......

Lookin at them pictures.... I surprised ya'll don't have control burns or least mow that grass down in the fall. Make hay outta it or sumpthin. All that tall, dead grass is just kinda askin for a road set. All it takes is one idiot to toss a match out. And theres no shortage of idiots, anymore.

The part that is mowed next to the street, Dennis mows. The city used to mow that little bit, but for some reason quite doing it. We never have liked the fact that the field is overgrown. Besides fire, it harbors lots of critters too. We have to keep our yard mowed, or get fined. And yet they don't make the owners of that field mow it down. Nuts. Since Dennis has started mowing it, the people down the street started too and pick up where Dennis leaves off.

Ya mite try just askin summa the local firefighters bout havin a practice burn out there or if there was sumpthin they mite could say to get it mowed. It would make they're job easier knowin they didn't havta worry bout saving your side of town. Or tell em next time just come up there and backfire. It'd be one of em emergency/on purpose/ accident type deals. lol

Out here, lots of pastureland, but they make the owners create firebreaks down along all the roads and such.
