This is the best and Only pie crust recipe I use. ALWAYS have a flakey crust.
Pie crust
3 cups sifted flour 1 1/4 cup shortening 1 tsp salt
Work together to consistency of meal.
Beat slightly: 1 egg 1 tsp vinegar 5 1/2 Tablespoons water
Make a well in flour mixture and add liquid mixture. Work well. Makes 2 9" or 10" shells.
Also, sometimes, I brush the bottom crust with egg white. It seals it and keeps it flakey. But this recipe is usually flakey without the egg whites

That is the type of pie crust that I like! Now if it only had the pecan filling and was freshly delivered to my door....

Made a pecan and pumpkin pie for daughters family the other day. Ran out of corn syrup, so I'll make Dennis one later. He actually loves "syrup" pie. Without the pecans. But I am putting pecans in it. Was really hurt. All the cooking I did for daughters' family other night, and not a word said to me about it. My heart went into it, and didn't even get acknowledged.

Awww, I'm sure they appreciated it dsmith, but yeah, they shoulda said something. I use the pie crust from an old Better Homes and Garden cookbook, has always turned out good. Think I'll give this one a try too, haven't ever had one with vinegar in it. LOL, if I make my dad a pecan pie he'll do just about anything I ask.

Pumpkin and pecan tie for first for me. If we have one, we have to have the other, so I always make both for special days. Lemon meringue is my next favorite. Although, during season, fresh apricot or peach will get my attention FAST, ROFL.

I like apple pie, but I stick a big old slice of sharp cheddar under my slice of pie and put it in the microwave till the cheese gets melty. My ma says I'm sick, LOL. Only way I'll eat it.
