Cooking With Tentfire

I will eventually get back to my Catfish Soap Bait, hopefully within the next few weeks. When I broke my leg last spring & summer, I just couldn't go through all the motions it required for pouring any of my soaps. No matter what I tried, it as far too painful. I am down to just a hard limp, now and the weather is really nice for pouring, so I hope to set back up this week. In the meantime . . . . . .

I thought I would share my cookbook with you. It is a collection of family recipes (from both sides) and many of the recipes I created while my kids were growing up. It is just plain, simple cooking, with plain, every day ingredients - and just a few fancy recipes mixed in for those special occasions. I have even included my top-secret and blue ribbon recipes that I would never give out before (because I used them to sell my baked goods at craft shows and fair entries).

Now, I am putting my recipes online, free for everyone. You can still purchase the entire book, if you want an actual copy to have at your hands (CW members - email me first for a discount), but if you are patient, I will be slowly adding them, one at a time, to the site, at no cost. You are welcome to read through the recipe index, and if you see one that you would like to see posted, email me and I will place it next in my list to post. I hope you find many recipes that you can enjoy and much enjoyable reading.

Very nice. I have several 3 ring binders with recipes. If I try something we like, I either type it up, or cut it out (if it's in a magazine(, and put contact paper on it, and put it in the binder. I have a binder for meat, one for pies, one for cakes, one for vegetables, etc. Then when I am looking for a recipe, I can find it easily. Hopefully my daughter will enjoy them someday.

I have a set like that that I did years ago, but I didn't use the contact paper. That is a GREAT idea! I had started mine for my Hope Chest when I was a teenager. Now, when I do cook, I end up just tossing a little of this and a little of that in, eye-balling the measurements.
If all goes well, tomorrow will be a bread baking day for me, and I will be using recipes.

Yeah, the contact paper means you can just wipe off any spills. I am also one of those that doesn't measure much. A lot of my cooking is just by what ever I decide to put in it too. I have played with and perfected a great pizza. The kids will beg me to make it if I don't for awhile. I usually make about 5 at a time, and they pig out. My daughter says that none of the pizza restaurants are as good as mine. Makes me feel good. But I will admit, I do make a mean pizza. ;D

Mmmmm...... that sounds so yummy! I bet your pizzas are the best! Have you ever made ham and pineapple pizza? That has always been one of my favorites.

I don't measure much either. Guess at most things. Don't follow very well either. Last time I measured exactly was when I was in 4-H. Sent more stuff to the state fair than the girls. I do read cookbooks and now that I got a converter for the TV, I watch the Create channel quite a bit.
Yup, I just read or watch and get the general idea, then toss stuff in and try not to burn anything down. Cept I seldom make anything the same way twice and don't ask me what all went in, cuz I prolly done forgot. ;D

I cook like that a lot, too... eye-balling and dumping this and that in. Drove me nuts having to get down all my exact measurements to write that cookbook, but a lot of family members are still happy about it so they can cook my recipes now, lol.
My kids use to get so mad when I would throw something together by dumping stuff in, it would turn out really good, then I couldn't do it again because by the next time, I couldn't even begin to remember what I had put in nor how much.
I like to read recipes and occasionally watch a cooking show, too (still don't have a tv hooked up, though) but I, too, just use them for a guide and ideas, rarely ever following one exact. Saw a recipe in a magazine today for creamed spinach. I think I am going to use it as a guide to make some creamed lambsquarters.
