Well, we got to go fishing today. After being out there a good while in the boat, my back and legs were really hurting. I couldn't sit any longer, had to get up and move. No can do in a small two man bass boat. So it's hot, I havent seen any snakes, I'll just jump in the water and stretch out. First off, I caught a little baby channel. Threw it back, positioned, and slid into the water. Turn around, and see the little fish I threw back floating along the top of the water a couple feet away. I have that instant though of hmmmmmmmmm, I wander why that is happening. And THEN I notice the big ole' brown mouth wrapped around it!!!!!!!!! I am flying back into the boat saying a few choice words. Dennis has his back to me and is asking what is wrong. I yell out that a snake had the little fish I threw back and was right next to me. Now I am safely back in the boat, and Dennis looks up and says, "I thought you said it was a little snake. That is a HUGE snake". I say, "tell me about it". I guess I should have realize that his mouth was full, he wasn't gonna get me. But when ya turn around and see a big snake just right next to ya, ya don't think logically. I tried to get pics, but by the time I got my camera out, he had swam pretty far away. By the way Hilly, I think you are right. I think snakes are my spirit guide. Snakes just seem to be part of our life whether we like it or not.

I'll pass on that one Papa. I have a friend who lives in Florida, and she said the other day, her brother in law saw an alligator while fishing. I love to fish, but if I lived in Croc and gator country, I think I'd give fishing up.

The snakes are really bad this year. I wear flip flops all the time in the summer. I have a pair of rubber boots in the trunk of the car to wear when I go fishing. Well the other day I decided to fish while waiting on my husband to get off from work. I hadn't saw a snake at the pond all year, so I thought I'll be fine and didn't put on my boots (in flip flops) setting there enjoying my fishing. I caught something out of the corner of my eye. It was the biggest water moccasin I've ever seen in my life. I pull my feet up in my lawn chair with me thinking all the time. Now what am I going to do. Of course my cell phone was in the car. So I had no way of getting anyone there to kill the snake. I was penned in my chair, because I was so close to the pond edge, I knew he could get me if I got up to get away. Of all things to be thinking of while setting there waiting the snake out, was could/would he strike at me all curled up in my chair, as we're having our staring contest. Oh, by the way I won the contest. For some strange reason the snake just swam off. Thank the Lord.

Oh my that is scary. It is nice to have someone else tell a snake story for once. Seems my husband and I are the king and queen of snakes. ALWAYS having a snake story to tell. I know you were really scared at the time. But now that all is said and done, you can look back and laugh about it. Glad he finally went away.

I know, my husband laughed at me because I put my feet up in my chair. He told me, if he (the snake) had of wanted me that he could have still gotten me. That's ok I wasn't going to make it easy for him. If he was going to get me he was going to have to work for that bit.
I have photos of them hitting my floater every time I cast out. Setting and staring at me acting like sticks where you can't see anything but their little beady eyes and nose above the water.
My daughter and I were shelling peas one day. We were setting in our back yard on a lawn bench. I felt wind from something hit the back of my foot. I looked down an there was a copperhead slithering behind our feet. All i could say was a choice word and told my daughter to get ger feet up when I counted three. Again setting with my feet up. I told her that I was going to go get the shovel to keep an eye on it so I'd know where it was when I come back. So much for that ideal. We live on a rock hill in the boonies so if he was still there he blended in really well. Never did find that snake. Oh, by the way someone had moved the shovel so I had to find it first. Didn't get to move that either. That's just the way things go around here.

They didn't tell me until after we bought our mobile home here. That this was know has rattlesnake hill. If they had of I would be living here that's for sure. Even tho we've only seen one in 14 years.

Wow, I'd be very nervous if I had a rattlesnake hill by me. :oBut since you haven't seen but one, maybe it's just an old legend or something. We have empty, overgrown fields across from us. We have seen a few rattlers over the years (we realized the other day, we have lived here for nearly 30 years.) One time, the granddaughter was running outside and stepped on one. Luckily, it didn't strike her. Then, about 6 years ago, a neighbor found 2 baby rattlers IN HIS HOUSE. That is scary. It's something you just adjust to. You know to keep a look out when outside. Although, we have a shed that we really need to get into to look for something. But as dry as it's been, we are afraid it could have a snake in it.

The best time to go looking in your shed would be this winter. Hopefully it will be cold enough for the snakes to go to sleep. You are going to find a snake skin more than likely tho.
We have scorpions bad here to. They used to get in the house, when we first move here. But it's been a long time since any of us has seen one. But you still look in boxes you get out of the clothes and anything else for that matter, before you stick your hand or foot which ever the case maybe in it.

Knock on wood, we haven't had a scorpion problem here. I had a friend that did, and she had a rough time with them being in the house. Ok, more nutty snake stories. My son's roommate found one in his apartment today. He lives in the middle of the city, on the SECOND floor of an apartment. He does live next to a creek, so I get the snake, but in a second floor apartment? If we don't get rain and cooler temps, the critters are gonna be crazy. I asked him what kind of snake. He didn't know yet, he was still at work and they had called him to tell him.

Sounds like someone had a pet that went exploring around in the building. But got caught before he could hide. He was probably freezing from the air conditioner and trying to find a warm place to hide.

I have seen snakes climb walls to get into the rafters of garages and sheds. Have found them in rain gutters on the roof at the ranch before also.

I think snakes can climb on anything they want to get on.
