A few years ago, we took a trip to the southeast coast. Seems like we saw "boiled Peanuts" everwhere. We had never heard of it. Bought a can and thought it was nasty. Does anyone like these or eat these?

Tried them years ago and do not like them. They boil them to remove the oil from them.

We still have the can around here, never bought it to eat just loved the name on the can, I wonder what they smell like, I imagine they aren't fit to eat after this long, they are probably about 22 yrs old now. The can makes for good conversation though.

Man we love boiled peanuts but that stuff in the cans is like comparing spam to steak don't get me wrong I like spam but I will never get it confused with steak ;D now let me tell ya how to make your own boiled peanuts get you a lb or 2 of raw peanuts in the shell get out your crockpot now if you want regular boiled peanuts fill your crockpot half full with hot water add a half a cup of salt mix it good then add the raw peanuts and let it sit for a couple of hours before you turn it on because you need the peanuts to get saturated before you start boiling them otherwise they will just float on top once that's done stir them up put the top on and turn the crockpot on high and let it cook for at least 12 hours I like to let it cook overnight stir it once in a while and keep an eye on the water in the pot if it gets low just mix up some salt and hot water in a cup and add it to the pot now take one out and eat it if the peanuts soft they are done If you like Cajun style hot peanuts [my favorite] just add a half a cup or more of you favorite liquid hot sauce to the water before adding the peanuts if you like a sweet salty flavor like my wife does added 3 or 4 table spoons of honey or brown sugar the good thing about boiling your own you can make a big batch and freeze the extra in smaller batches then when you want some boiled peanuts you pull out a bag and put it in a bowl with some water and microwave it 4 or 5 minutes and they will be as good as if you had just made them
