I don't agree at all with these kinds of "graduations" but I went to watch to support her... because it meant so much to her. It was a packed mad house with parents running around everywhere with bouquets of flowers, wheeling around fancy cakes on carts, huge bouquets of mylar balloons... all for a mass of 4 & 5 year olds! Caps and Gowns included. My opinion was that it was simply a BIG sales gimmick to pour some money into our town's economy.... but she sure was cute tonight, I WAS proud of her, and I had to share. Yes, I am VERY proud of her! Thank you both. And yes, she will have a kindergarten graduation next year. It just doesn't make sense. But the kids do have a lot of fun with it. She is a sweetheart. She is a rare gem in the world of kids today in that she is genuinely caring and things matter (mean something) and she still remembers way later on.
What really scared me, though, was that, after her class filed out of the arena through the enormous crowd, I was able to walk right up to her, hand her her gift, give her a hug and kiss, talk to her and her little friends a moment (her teacher had never met me, didn't know me from adam, and I didn't even see a teacher), and no one checked me out. I could have easily, at any given moment, just walked right off with her and no one would have noticed for a long while. That scared me and was the biggest reason I was against such a big-to-do in such a huge place.
