Finally got tard of pricing over priced oars and broke down and bought me a board. And set about making my own. Took me the best part of yesterday. But I think it looks perty ok for an amature. I texted a young friend yesterday morning and asked if he knew how to use a plane. He said he did. I said, then come over and show me how to run this thing. He came over and was kinda disappointed to find out I was talking about hand planes. ;D So I got to teach a young feller how to use a hand plane and he got to use his youthful energy on taking alot of the blade part of the oar down. A win-win deal! Cept, I doubt if I get that opportunity again. I don't magine I can fool him again. In the pictures, One new oar and one old oar. All greased up with linseed oil.

It looks like the real thing..What type of wood did you use? LOL It could have been a Kentucky chainsaw that you needed help with operating.

A year ago I gave away a draw knife and a spoke shave because I couldn't think of anything to do with them. They were antiques and Dave's little brother is a collector. I could have made some oars. In Ross and Pickaway counties we have Orr road. The orginal Orr houses in both counties were on this road.

Very very nice. Someday, I will have to post the hiking canes Dennis makes. When we went to the state parks, they charge 20 plus for them. He said he could do that. They are nice. He sanded them, varnished them, then I used a wood burner and put initials on them.

Tried out the oar last night. Worked perty good. Didn't get to really test it to full potential cause me and Mudd was fishing and he brings along the kitchen sink. Had trolling motor for backup. Mudd caught bait, I caught a dink bout 2 pounds. Since he works at Bass pro now, I had him pick me up one of em lip grippers with a scale built in. Only goes to #30 but for all I been catchin this year, that'll do fine. Got ta try it out on the dink. Was nice! Didn't even havta get slimey. Just grip and weigh and drop him back in. Mudd says he gonna havta get one now.

Glad that the oar works as it should. Might be able to start you a new side line. Have been wanting to get one of the lip grippers to use.

I love my lip gripper, been using it for several years nlow. I'm guessing Dad would love it too if he ever handled a fish anymore. I think he enjoys watching me use it. dave

I have to admit. I was not much of a fisherman. Just fished once in a while as an adult. I did fish when I was a kid but mostly in a farm pond. Dave has taught me a lot. He and my late uncle Joe would have really loved time together. As I get older I hunt less and fish more. If it were't for Dave I couldn't do either. I never saw a lip grip until Dave showed up with one. Dave got us each one his gets a lot of use mine lays in the bottom of aa tackle box. Dave is a pretty god boy more good than pretty but don't tell him I said so.
