Another post got me to thinking. Does anyone konw how to snakeproof? We do get rattlers around here. Killed our dog a couple years ago . ONe of the granddaughters stepped on one last year. Luckily, she was ok. I know you can buy the snakeproofing stuff at Lowes. But it is really expensive to use. I've heard mothballs work. I've put them under our house and in our sheds. But I still find snake skins in them. Yes, there are cats around. That does help

Leave the garder snakes alone only get rid of poison ones. Lots of the black gardner snakes attack the other snakes and keep them away some! Keep wood piles to minimum! epom salts also work since it burns their skin. Also salt and sand!

We try not to kill bull snakes as they do kill rattlers. But sometimes it is really hard to tell the difference. Ya gotta get a gander at the tail

Orange Copper heads is what I look outfor. When you find a 9inch oe there must be big one somewhere close! They are tuff little snakes and the little ones are very poison. some say the venom is stronger in the small ones!

Do you have a fence around the house? Keep all stacked wood off the ground at least 28 to 30 inches. Set out D-con under the house ,in the shed and garage to kill all mice, rats, etc. Trim all ground plants at least 12inches from the ground and away from the house at least 2feet. The main thing is to keep their food gone. (mice, rats ,etc) Keep the grass mowed...

Too cold up there!!! Ya'll need to turn down that outdoor ac up there. I do keep the plants trimmed up high and the grass mowed because of the snakes. I love to work out in the yard, and I like to see under the plants. Ok , here is a funny story on me: When we first got married, I used to sit on the ground and pull weeds.(still do some, but weed eat more) Anyway, we had hung rubber snakes in the trees to keep the birds off the cars. I don't need to go any farther, do I? You got this one figured out . Yes I did. One had fallen on the ground. I grabbed a handfull of weeds and didn't see it at first. I had a bucket on the opposite side that I was putting the weeds in. Slung that ole rubber snake right in front of my face. Yeap, I could really move fast than. You couldn't even see me, I was jumping so fast lol ;D

If you want to catch all the snakes just put a rabbit cage on the ground with a few rabbits and cut a couple holes just big enough for a large snake to get into the cage but not big enough for the rabbit to get out. Some morning you will, have a snake with a round stomach that can't get back out of the cage . If it is poison get rid ofit or use it for bait! It sounds cruel but happen every day. . A big turckey leg may work the same way! Two racoon traps pu ened to end with one of the metal plates taken out also will work for snakes. Thy are like a dog cage and have a lever ation when the atch wals in the door closed. Put the dooron the opoite end and re hook the longer wire and put some raw meat in the trap and only a small hole on the one end so cats can;t get in! The cage is about 3 feet long and two will give you 6 feet and a pretty big snake! Also great for getting rid of ground hogs and moving them up the road! A dead fish will also work great in the trap for snakes. You can catch a snake with a trebble hook just set it where animals will not get it and put a dead fish on it!
