I am always doing work at home for the bakery. On my desktop. I do charts, etc. using word. It runs really slow. So I decided to use my laptop for it. When I hit print, it says it can't do so until I enter a product key. I have no product key. What am I doing wrong?

Go to your start bar- control panel- printers- and then find the printer you use and set it as default, or if it isn't there add it. Then re-boot and try again, should be fine.
I'm guessing whatevber is set as your default printer isn't something you have, and won't therefore work properly.
I could be wrong, though I have limitations too.

It recoginizes the new printer just fine. I can print other things with it. It just won't let me print documents I have made up myself. Just wants the product key.

Ahh, now I think I see what is happening. your document software isn't registered (or at least your putor thinks it isn't), you either have a trial version that expired, or you need to find the key that came in the paperwork with your laptop and enter it. Basically it's how they prevent folks form using unlisceneced software. It may be a glitch of some sort, but entering the key should take care of it. if not, you may have to remove and re-install your document program.

it's kinda late in the game, but if you don't have a registered version of Word, or Excel, or pretty much anything that comes with Micro$oft Office, you can always use Open Office. Just go to Google and type in Open Office. It's freeware, put out by the same great folks who gave us Firefox and Linux, and is compatible with all the Micro$oft documents.

Thanks Tellyfonman. Love having you here, you are really helpful and knowledgable. I actually stumbled upon the open office the other day and downloaded it. I love it. Thanks for all the great info.

I am going to have to try that Open Office. I had seen it advertised, but didn't know what it was MC, that sounds like a really good printer. Mine prints off fairly well, but takes TONS of ink. It costs me more to print them myself than it does to go have then done at Walmart. I hate to admit it, but their quality is better, too. And, it is usually faster. And on the few that I have printed off on my printer, they seemed to fade and/or change color before too long .... sometimes getting a greenish tent to them. Right now I am having big computer problems again. My desktop keeps going down. Thought I had it fixed, but it was doing it again last night and this morning. Says it is something called Blue Screen of Death. eeeek!

I have open office and Love, love love it. And it's free. I have a fairly new Kodak printer. It is nice. Ink is cheap. Have a lexmark at work. Hate it. The ink is very expensive. So I decided to have the cartridges refilled as we use a lot of ink. Nope. You can't refill Lexmark cartridges. Ain't that nuts.

They can be re-filled but it is very difficult to do so not to mention messy...They are expensive to buy...Also if the copier isn't used much the cartridges will dry out before they run out of ink..
